The thoracic outlet syndrome is a compression of nerves and/or blood vessels between the collarbone and the rib cage.
Symptoms:
- Pain in the neck and shoulder
- Tingling of the fingers
- Weak grip
Causes:
- Extra cervical rib
- An abnormal tight band between vertebra and rib
- Injury or overuse in that area
Treatment:
- Massage of the surrounding muscles
- Physiotherapy to strengthen the shoulder muscles
- Surgery if no improvement of symptoms
